The importance of a good crew is often overlooked. It’s all too easy to focus on getting the best price and forget that you’ll be relying on your skipper & host to actually facilitate the whole trip!
Unlike many other platforms, we keep a number of our own crew in rotation through summer and can often provide people we know and trust to join our customers out on the water, effectively guaranteeing that you’ll have the best crew possible!
What makes a good yacht crew?
A good skipper will have excellent knowledge of the sailing area and should be willing to work with you to tailor a route that fits your needs. They’ll act as a kind of tour guide throughout the trip: Arranging excursions/ activities, making recommendations, helping you to book restaurants, and teaching/ helping you to sail the yacht yourself now and then if you’d like.
Safety will be their chief concern, they’ll brief you on safe practices around the boat and keep a close eye on weather conditions through the week to make sure that you’re never caught out.
A host/stew usually provides a half-board meal service. Preparing breakfast & lunch onboard for each day of the trip. This works well for most groups, who’d prefer to get off the boat and explore in the evenings. Some hosts will draw the line there, but rest assured that if you’d like one or two dinners onboard in more remote locations, then Solis hosts are always willing to step up to the occasion!
Essentially, you should do away with any of the admins that might distract you from the business of holidaying and enjoying yourselves!
How much does a charter Skipper cost?
It does vary based on the country and particular boat, but we offer our charter skippers from €1250 to €1400. Depending on your specific charter, there can be a small food allowance on top of the skipper rate, approximatley €30 a day.
How much does a charter Host cost?
Similar to the skipper prices, the host’s fee does vary based on the country and particular boat, but we offer our charter hosts/chefs/stews from €1150 to €1350. Depending on your specific charter, there can be a small food allowance on top of the skipper rate, approximately €30 a day.
