What is the best period to sail in Croatia?
The main Croatian sailing season runs from May – October. Pricing scales with demand and school holiday periods will always cost a little more. If your group has the flexibility it’s well worth visiting in shoulder months like June & September. The weather is still very reliable, but it’s less busy and you’ll save substantially on hire pricing.
How much does it cost to charter a yacht in Croatia?
The cost of a charter in Croatia will depend on: Time of year, sail-area & the yacht’s model, age & spec.
Week-long bareboat charters in the low season can start from as little as €1,500. While a peak period charter for a large luxury catamaran can reach €30,000 for a week sailing the Dalmatian Coast.
What are the requirements for sailing in Croatia?
If you want to bareboat in Croatia then you’ll need at least one certified skipper with an ICC (International Certificate of Competance) or equivalent, as well as a valid VHF license. The skipper must be proficient at handling a yacht in close quarters, mooring and anchoring in varying conditions.
The Croatian authorities also ask that there be at least one other experienced adult onboard – though they don’t nessecarily need to be qualified.
Is it safe to sail around Croatia?
Yes! The Croatian yachting industry has come on leaps and bounds in the last 15 years. You can rest assured that its a very safe area to explore on your own yacht. Calm conditions and hospitable locals ensure that its very safe in comparison to many other locations in the world.
What are sailing conditions like in Croatia?
Croatian waters are reknowned for being calm and easy to sail. Most of the time you’re sailing in the lee of the islands and wave height is kept minimal. Even in open water you rarely get anything too challenging in the summer months.
There are several different wind directions you may encouter while sailing. You need to consider local effects as winds wrap around the islands or come down off hill-sides. All the same its still considered a beginner friendly sailing area.
